| I'm on dial-up, and some of these videos can take forever to download because the server drops the connection every five minutes or so. When this happens, my download utility reestablishes the connection and resumes the download, but it tends to take a good 10-20 seconds or so every time, and it rolls back 4K in the file, which is another 2-3 seconds lost. I had one file that dropped and resumed 96 times, and that's a lot of time lost on a crummy connection. My utility has an option to make multiple connections to the server to improve bandwith, but some people really don't like that, and I'd rather not get banned as I love this site, especially the new format. Even with four connections to a server, I can't pull in much more than 2.5K/sec, so I don't think I'd be stealing anyone's bandwidth, but it might be an issue if the server only allows a limited number of connections. So what I'm asking is, do you have a policy on download accelerators? |
Hey DV,
I have no problems at all with people on dial-up using whatever techniques they have in order to grab the files. I recall all too well my days of using dial-up and know how frustrating that can be for grabbing media files.
The original reason for creating the 'preview' versions of the clips was to allow people with slower connections the opportunity to see what the clip contained, before trying to download the full sized versions. So, I fully understand the plight of the dial-up users and support whatever it takes for you to be able to download the clips that you want.
Thanks for your compliments and support on the site. I hope to have more clips up this weekend.
